In early 2006 Dominica was named in the Top 10 eco-tourism destinations in the world. Dominica is now ranked in the top 5 dive destinations in the world.

Dominica volcanic origins create dramatic diving with underwater hot water springs and bubbles flowing from fissures, There are submerged volcanic craters, lava pinnacles, tunnels, arches and unique structures along the coral reefs.

Dominica diving can be broken down into three regions.
Northwest The dramatic, volcanic topography includes huge boulders that slid into the sea and have created cave-like swim-throughs and reefs.

Middle The sea bottom here is not as spectacular, there are reeftop or sand flats, where you may find frogfish and batfish, and a drop down wall for deep dives.

Southwestern The majority of visiting divers, come for the spectacular diving found along this coast. There are deep walls, pinnacles and stunning valleys that create a thrilling seascape. In Soufriere Bay which is the submerged crater of an ancient volcano, Divers can explore the shallow reefs that line the rim of the crater or drop down on its volcanic flanks for a deeper profile.

Wildlife Scotts Head Soufriere Marine Reserve
